Since becoming gluten free, I’ve had to give up a lot of foods and snacks that I love. I now have to read the ingredient list of almost everything I pick up in markets and stores; how annoying. Even more annoying, most of the time items are made with wheat flour, rye, or barley. Since having this gluten restriction, I’ve had the chance to venture out and try so many new things. Some things I love; Some things I hate, others I’m indifferent. Here is a list of 5 brands/ items I do love and recommend trying if you are or are considering going gluten free!
1. Goodie Girl – Cookie Brand. I’ve only had two types of cookies from this brand. I’ve had their mint cookies, which is pretty much the gluten free version of the Girl Scouts Thin Mint cookie. I’ve also had their chocolate crème, which is basically a gluten free Oreo. Both cookies are tasty, so I’m feeling confident their other flavors are just as delicious.
2. Schär – Breads, crackers, and snacks. I love Schär’s Ciabatta Bread. I cut them in half then put some butter, Italian seasoning, garlic infused olive oil, and sometimes cheese on top; broil it for 2-3 minutes; It is just so delicious. I use the same bread to make sandwiches. Also their hazelnut wafers are delightful. I plan on trying more of their products soon.
3. Udi’s – Variety. Udi’s mac and cheese, pizza, breads, and bagels are on my “tried” list. This brand has everything from pastas to breads, desserts to breakfast. Just remember if your following the low FODMAP diet you may want to be careful with the pastas, for they may contain garlic, onions, and/or cheese that is not low FODMAP.
4. Live G Free -Variety. This brand belongs to ALDI, which is a Super Market brand. They make a lot of different gluten-free foods, such as pasta noodles, sandwich wraps, prepared pastas, pizzas, and baking goods (biscuits, desserts, stuffings, and more). One of my favorite products of their’s is their version of the HotPocket. I’ve tried some of their other products and love them too but those HotPockets remind me of something I’ve been missing. Easy to prepare and can eat on the go.
5. Drizzilicious – Kettle Popcorn and Rice cakes. I can eat a whole bag in a day! It’s the type of sweetness that keeps calling you back. This snack contains flavored kettle popcorn or super mini rice cakes made with chia, quinoa, and flax. All snacks drizzled with white or dark chocolate. So far, I’ve had their cinnamon roll and s’mores flavored rice cakes. Both are fantastic and if I see their birthday cake flavor I’m going to have to pick it up.
