HEY THERE! I’m Capri Banks, and this is LET’S TALK TUMMY: Living
an Everyday Life with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). In 2019, I was diagnosed with IBS and Chronic Gastritis. Ever since
then, I have had to gradually change a lot of things in my life and it honestly hasn’t been easy. I’m constantly looking to grow my knowledge on these illnesses and figure out what works for me. Every time I look for others dealing with the same thing, I hardly see anyone that looks like me or that came from the same type of environment as me. For that reason, I wanted to start this blog to document my journey, help others that may have no clue where to start, and help with my perseverance. I wanted to be a voice for the Black and Urban Community because what foods we have access to locally and how we eat, differs from others. Studies show that IBS affects about 1 in 7 people in the world. That’s not a true representation because so many people don’t go to the doctor to get the testing needed for their stomach issues. Where I’m from, I hadn’t known of any others dealing with or had dealt with IBS. I realized after beginning to speak about my experience, that more and more of people I know are affected as well. I just want my audience to laugh with me, cry with me, feel my frustrations and joys, but please don’t feel sorry for me. This life long illness is something that can be managed and is not life threatening so just enjoy this blog and welcome to my journey!!
